tanabata

Tanabata or also known as star festival is a famous festival in Japan that is celebrated every year on July 7 ( or august 7 in some places). When this time of year comes around, people write down their wishes on a stripes of colour paper, along with decoration and hang them on the bamboo trees, placed in the backyards or entrances of their homes. Then they pray hard that their wishes will come true.

the festival traces its origin to a legend that the Cowherd Star (Altair) and Weaver Star (Wega), lovers separated by a Milky Way, are allowed to meet just once a year, which is on the seventh day of the seventh month.  it was originated more than 2000 years ago with a tale called kikkoden.  Once there was a weaver princess named Orihime and a cow herder prince named Hikoboshi.  After they got together, they were playing all the time and forgot their jobs.  The king was angry and separated them on opposite sides of the Amanogawa River(Milky Way).  The king allowed them to meet only once a year on July 7th.

the festival is celebrated everywhere especially at school, home and shopping complex.  so, this is dada's school entrance looks like each time of tanabata festival comes.

fuji san

This is my latest project, fuji san.  Actually it is not 100% complete, but i just cant have patience to wait until it to be published here.  Because this one took me about 5 weeks time to completed, which is amongst the longest project i had so far.   To make the color of mountain and sky look like what you may see now, i myself cannot remember how many times i had layered on it.  That is what water color is, layer by layer that makes the drawing differ and lively.  My sensei told me that, it still need some touching up here and there...but then it is here to public. In English the mountain is known as Mount Fuji, but Japanese speaker refer to the mountain as Fuji-San.  This is the highest mountain in Japan, at 3776.24 m.  An active stratovolcano that last erupted in 1707-08, Mount Fuji lies about 60 miles south-west of Tokyo, and can be seen from there on clear day.  Mount Fuji exceptionally symmetrical cone is a well-known as a symbol of Japan and it is frequently depicted in art
